Where is Painted Prairie?
Painted Prairie is a community located in the northeast section of Aurora, Colorado (Adams County). The bordering streets are 56th Avenue on the south to 64th Avenue on the north side and from Picadilly Street on the east side to currently Lisbon Street on the west side. Painted Prairie is only in the second of ten phases of building and the construction is moving west.
This community has also received awards such as the National Community of the Year by National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) in 2022, plus the best landscaping. Not too shabby!
Schools
One of the biggest questions I get is, “are there schools in the Painted Prairie neighborhood?” The short answer is, no, there are not any schools directly in the neighborhood. However, there is a bus stop for public schools in the area. Below are the schools where kiddos in Painted Prairie go.
- Elementary and Middle School – Aurora Highlands P-8 or Harmony Ridge P-8
- High School – Vista Peak Preparatory School
- School District – Adams-Arapahoe 28J School District

What makes Painted Prairie special?
So, so, so much. This neighborhood was built with green space in mind. There are over 30+ acres of open space throughout the neighborhood. Painted Prairie was awarded the nationwide Best Landscape Community in 2022 (not bad, huh!). There are currently 8 builders with over 30 floor plans available in the neighborhood starting from the mid $400ks up to $1m.
On top of the stellar location and amazing views, my favorite aspect of the neighborhood is, hands down, the residents of this neighborhood. There is a real community vibe happening in Painted Prairie and I’m here for it. In the summers you will find movies in the park, friends and neighbors playing volleyball, cornhole, and bbq-ing together. There are also wonderful farmers markets once a month and don’t miss out on the annual harvest festival. Fabulous festival getting bigger and bigger every year. The party planners in Painted Prairie know what they’re doing!
Why should you consider Painted Prairie?
Other than the wide variety of homes in a beautifully landscaped neighborhood, Painted Prairie is conveniently located close to all major hubs of employment in the Denver/Aurora metro area. Some major nearby employers include Denver International Airport (DIA), Buckley Space Force Base, Colorado Air and Space Port, Anschutz Medical Center, Rocky Mountain VA Hospital, and more. Painted Prairie is approximately 10 minutes from DIA, 20 minutes to downtown, 20 minutes to the Denver Tech Center, and 30 minutes to Boulder. Major highways such as I-70, I-225, and E-470 make getting to and from these areas a breeze.

My introduction to Painted Prairie came from builders in the Central Park neighborhood, and let me tell you, I couldn’t resist exploring what they were raving about. Spoiler alert: I fell head over heels for this neighborhood! It’s a true gem with breathtaking views.
Now, I’m your go-to person for Painted Prairie real estate here at Compass, handling both new builds and resale homes.
